Sited beside a bio-retention pond, the sculpture Percolare filters rain water, contributing to the environmental rehabilitation at the heart of this commission, which is integrated into a LEED rated Greenroads project. The artwork highlights the passage of rain and storm water and is easily visible to passing pedestrians and automotive traffic. Composed of shapes and surfaces reminiscent of strainers and sieves, the piece mimics the naturally occurring distillation process in the bio-retention basin. Inspired by the natural filtration process occurring in the basin, the three elements of the sculpture collect filter and release water during wet weather. Elements of the sculpture are both permeable and solid providing the means to collect and release water into the surrounding region.

What is a LEED rated Greenroads project?

Earning the title of “Greenroads project” means that a project has satisfied the credits of the Greenroads Rating System, which exists to measure and manage sustainability on transportation projects. The Greenroads Project Rating Program challenges Project Teams to go above and beyond minimum environmental, social, and economic performance measures and evaluates the sustainability and environmental impact of public projects through an independent, expert, third-party review. The Rating System and all Greenroads Programs are administered by the 501c3 nonprofit organization, Greenroads International.
