Walk Between, 1991
Walk Between was a site specific installation on the campus of Goucher College in Towson, MD. Nestled in between the Rosenburg Gallery and the Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Arts Center, the work brought attention to nature’s inherent patterns and humanity’s ability to shape and distort them. The piece was composed of 25 plumb bobs attached to cedar poles lining a pathway in a serpentine fencing design, an earth berm that erupted with fog at three hour intervals, and a garden honoring a 100 year old oak tree. The moving and time-based elements revealed patterns or sequences of energy pulsations that gave order to the everyday world. However, the leveling, modulation, passage, and syncopation of this work resulted from human manipulation. Natural rhythms were the activating force for the piece, as climactic and seasonal changes occurred. Commissioned by Goucher College and an Anonymous Donor.
