Heart Beating Beneath the Earth, 2023

Launched at a public event that included a panel of contributors (above) in May 2023, Heart Beating Beneath the Earth brings attention to the urgent issue of climate change and its impact on water. Through a unique structure, the book uses the visual arts as a springboard for thought-provoking short writings. It employs a "call and response" strategy, where photographs of my sculptures situated in various natural settings serve as the initial "call." The responses from contributors form a didactic ecosystem unique to the project. Contributors shared a range of literary forms, including poetry, short essays, and fiction, as their meaningful "response" to the call of the photographs of the sculptures. Through this collaborative process, a network of 30 individuals from diverse backgrounds and professions has formed, each adding their own thread to the intricate lattice of responses. Just like the interconnected elements in any ecosystem, the contributors' meditations and perspectives intertwine and overlap. They provide a multi-dimensional lens through which readers can delve into the issue of climate change and its impact on water. HBBE creates a profound tapestry of voices and experiences, all joining together to raise awareness and inspire action. It is a testament to the power of collective collaboration and the importance of addressing the pressing challenges our planet faces.
